Deborah Cox Joins Constantine Maroulis in Broadway-Bound Jekyll & Hyde

Broadway vet and Grammy nominee Deborah Cox will star as Lucy opposite Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis (Dr. Jekyll) in the previously announced Broadway engagement of Jekyll & Hyde. The production is planning on opening on Broadway in the spring of 2013 after a 25-week national tour. A pre-tour engagement will take place September 7 through 30 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, California, with the tour officially beginning at San Diego’s Civic Theatre on October 2. No further casting has been announced.

Jekyll & Hyde was concieved for the stage by Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden, with lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Wildhorn. The forthcoming production will be directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun. Based on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, the musical is the story of a London doctor who, in an attempt to cure his father’s mental illness, creates an evil alternate personality who causes violence and destruction. The original Broadway production of Jekyll and Hyde opened on April 28, 1997 at the Plymouth Theatre and earned four Tony Award nominations.

Cox made her Broadway debut in Aida, and released a dance version “Easy As Life” written by Elton John and Tim Rice. As an R&B singer-songwriter, Cox has released five albums, including the 1997 Grammy-nominated album Destination Moon, a tribute to Dinah Washington. The Canadian-born singer is best known for her 1998 single “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here.”
